Davey Tree's SUBTERRANIAN SOUNDS
Davey Tree is a drummer and a beatmaker I met in San Francisco in the 90's. He was drumming in a band known as Run The Voodoo Down with a guitarist known as Leroy or "Chris Johnson". These guys would play funk, soul, blues, ect with Chris Johns plucking the bass line and hitting the lead riffs on his guitar while Davey Tree would hammer on the tight Breakbeat drum set. He was also making beats on guitar pedals and beat machines, making loops and drumming with a Dr Rhythm Machine. We were part of a crew that would throw parties in the 13th and Capp warehouse in San Francisco. Graf writers, djs, b-boys, emcees, artists and musicians would all gather to create the most energetic and memorable times.
After moving away from the Bay Area to New York, Davey Tree worked on this gem. Classic dusty Hip-Hop complete with crunchy samples and breaks to make any purist feel right at home. I was lucky enough to be living in Philadelphia at the time and was asked to come through Davey Tree's home and record the scratching for this album. This is one of my favorite projects I've gotten to work on. I really enjoy the complete feel of the album as a whole and I know you will enjoy listening to it as well. A classic sought after home-brew. ENJOY!!

ARCHITECTS OF ACOUST * Philadelphia
When I moved to Philadelphia in the late '90's, this CD was a great motivator to get me to leave San Francisco amidst the great Silicon Valley takeover. My rent in S.F. was doubling and I really couldn't afford to live in the city anymore. I received this CD in the mail from my friend ISEE who had moved to Philadelphia a short time earlier. When I heard the tracks on this "PreRelease" I got excited. I had been making music on my MPC2000, sampling 45's I had discovered digging through the vast seas of vinyl in Washington D.C. and San Francisco's many record stores that existed back in the 1900's (!) and this grimy, bass heavy, basement recording of the ARCHITECTS OF ACOUST really hit home. I decided to move to Philadelphia a short time after that first listening. I ended up moving into the ARCHITECTS house at 45th and OSAGE in WEST PHILADELPHIA.

This cassette tape came out in San Francisco right before my friends Beaver and Noah D went to the Gathering. Sounds like a role playing event but it's more like a huge hippie campout. These cats were more hippy than I had ever known. I came to S.F. from Washington D.C. back in the early 90's. I was doing graffiti, djing and making music. These hippies were doing graffiti, djing and making music. They offered me a spot in their School bus but I declined and stayed in San Francisco to do more graffiti, dj and make more music. BSKE and DEEZLEE used this tape to help support the trip by selling as many copies as they could while giving away a bunch along the way. In honor of LABOR DAY we bring you the Working Class Blues. This track was released on a cd entitled "KENNETH MASTERS and CRAMSKE are: THE PREMIUM UNDERGROUND". Kenneth Masters penned the lyrics and Cramske provided the soundscape for delivery. These two guys met in Philadelphia while both working as Bike Messengers, so they really have a thing or two to say about the Working Class. This goes out to all those who work hard to make ends meet.

Mastered from a 4-track recording I made in the mid 90's in San Francisco. This is the first multi-track mix I made after I got my first cassette 4-track. I had received some 20 minute tapes from a friend and so I wanted to do two ten-minute mixes to get some of my music out there. I spent days working in my tiny bedroom studio on 23rd and Potrero in the Mission district of San Francisco California perfecting all my cuts and recording vocals. The mix was released on cassette tape with handmade covers. Side A is a vinyl only mix with scratches blends and juggles. Side B contains some of my friends like DOJAH rhyming or MAX KANE (ALES) scratching over my beat production. I made the beats on my Akai MPC2000.

This is an "in the room" recording of a DOWHATYALIKE night at the LUCKY STAR BAR in Sebastopol California, recorded LIVE to cassette tape. We just placed a boom box on the bar and hit record, reminiscent of the old Jamaican Dance-Hall recordings we all love so much. You get to hear the ambiance and room chatter as if you were there with us. Maybe you were. Maybe you'll hear yourself talking about something you shouldn't be talking about in public. Who knows? But you will get to hear some great songs and have a good time along the way.
